Patuxent River Beaches
The Patuxent is Maryland's longest river entirely within the state, emptying into the Chesapeake near Solomons Island. River beaches along the lower Patuxent have a unique character — calmer than the open Bay, with tidal-river ecosystems, good fishing, and often less crowding.
Current Conditions
Average water temperature: 64°F
Across 2 monitored stations on the Patuxent River.
When to Go
May through October. Water temps track close to the Chesapeake given the tidal connection.
Watch Out For
Bacteria advisories track with the Bay. Currents in narrows can be stronger than expected.
