Privacy
It's a Beach Day is built to answer one question - is today a beach day - and to do that without knowing anything about you. This page describes what we collect (nothing), what we store (nothing), and how the site works.
What we do not do
- We do not use cookies.
- We do not run analytics that identify individual visitors.
- We do not sell, share, or rent any data.
- We do not have user accounts or require sign-ups.
- We do not run advertising or affiliate links in editorial content.
- We do not use third-party tracking scripts (no Google Analytics, no Meta Pixel, no remarketing pixels).
What happens when you visit
Your browser requests the page from our host (Cloudflare Pages), which serves the static HTML. Standard HTTP request logs - your IP address, user agent, and URL - are handled by Cloudflare per their privacy practices and are not retained or used by us beyond basic traffic trend counts.
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is privacy-first and cookieless. It counts aggregate pageviews and top pages. It does not identify individuals, does not use cookies, and does not require a consent banner under GDPR/CCPA.
Where the data comes from
All beach conditions are fetched at build time from public government APIs:
- NOAA CO-OPS - tides and water temperature
- National Weather Service - forecasts and weather alerts
- Maryland Department of the Environment - swim advisories
- NOAA NDBC - wave heights from offshore buoys
- NOAA CBIBS - sea nettle probability in Chesapeake Bay
- EPA - UV index forecasts
Our server identifies itself to these APIs with our contact email ([email protected]) per their request, so they can reach us about rate limits or issues.
Contacting us
If you email us, we keep the email to reply. We do not add you to any marketing lists (we do not have any).
Businesses listed on the site
Businesses that purchase a listing provide us with their business details (name, address, website, hours, a pitch). Those details are displayed on the site. We do not collect personal information from those businesses beyond what is needed to invoice them.
Changes
If our approach ever changes, we will update this page and date it. We will not retroactively start tracking visitors who arrived under a prior version.
