One of the best parts of traveling is getting to taste and savor all kinds of new and delicious foods, whether you’re driving across the state or flying across the world. And, without a doubt, it’s fun to let go a little and eat things you wouldn’t normally eat during a week at home, that’s part of the freedom and excitement of being on vacation!
But we all know the feeling when we’ve had way too much for too many days in a row: the total lack of energy, the bloating, dehydration, headaches, or hangovers, the pronounced jet lag, the increased susceptibility to getting sick. All of these things can really get in the way of maximizing your travel enjoyment. And if you’re someone with food restrictions, you know the added frustration of trying to find good food that will be good to you, too!
The great news is that it’s easier than ever to make the kinds of food choices that will keep you healthy and energized while you’re away from your usual routine. Here are some simple ways to eat great while you’re taking in the best moments of your trip:
- Plan ahead. Often when we’re traveling, we’re out of routine and aren’t eating at regular intervals. Sometimes we can go several hours without eating anything.
Contrary to the popular myth that you should hold off eating to “save room” for a big meal, going for long stretches without eating actually slows metabolism and causes your body to become sluggish and tired and hang on to calories. Our bodies experience these periods as “mini-starvations” and send our brains into panic mode. To keep blood sugar stable and avoid energy lapses (which can then lead to overcompensating with high-sugar or fried foods), aim for eating a little bit every couple of hours while in transit and while you’re out and about, in the form of foods that are nutrient-dense and high in lean protein. Pack snacks for easy access: nuts, seeds, hard-boiled eggs, firm fruits (like apples), veggies and hummus, or natural fruit-and-nut bars.
If you know where you’re staying, scout out restaurants in the area of your hotel. Check with your hotel or resort to peruse menus and see what’s available. Once you arrive, you can use an app like AroundMe to locate healthier restaurants in your area. And check out these smart phone apps that can help you find gluten- and other allergen-free options while you travel.
- Don’t forget the grocery store! A supermarket, and especially a local co-op, can be your best ally while traveling. You’ll have easy, cheap access to fresh produce and bulk healthy snacks. You’ll find a wider variety of great foods that are free of gluten, dairy, and other common allergens at a reasonable cost. Plus, many co-ops also have a deli where you can get delicious sandwiches, salads, or wraps to take with you during the day.
- Your mother was right: get your greens and take your vitamins. While you’re traveling, your immune system is exposed to tons of new pathogens-especially on airplanes and other mass transit. You want to make sure your body has what it needs to stay healthy and fight germs and process toxins. Don’t forget to pack your multi-vitamin and your other supplements! If you can’t get ready access to fresh greens, consider getting some powdered greens that you can bring with you and easily mix into a glass of water or a morning smoothie.
- Speaking of morning smoothies… if you’re really dedicated to getting your daily intake of fruits and veggies, you might even consider bringing along a travel blender. This might seem extreme to some, but consider this: most of them are under $20, fit easily into a suitcase or the back of the car, and can be just the thing to quickly make a power breakfast of fruits, nuts, and vegetables that will keep you going all morning.
- Drink way more water than you normally do. Planes and hotel rooms are notoriously dry. Walking around all day expends energy and dehydrates. Often people drink alcohol or sodas with meals, which also are dehydrating. Drinking more than your usual 8 glasses of water a day will keep you energized, hydrate your cells, keep your skin glowing, and will help flush out toxins.
- Drink less alcohol than everyone around you is drinking. This can be challenging especially on business trips, where drinking is a familiar pastime. But in addition to worsening dehydration and jet lag, tossing back more than two drinks leads to more unhealthy eating. (A study from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that men take in an extra 433 calories on average from alcohol and food when they consume more than two drinks!)
- Try to get your eight hours’ beauty rest. Easier said than done, I know! But getting decent rest helps steady your metabolism, resets your adrenal system, and boosts your immunity. Being sufficiently rested will make every other choice you face on your vacation so much easier.
- Try the “one and done” rule. Let yourself have treats and enjoy them-just keep it to once a day. Get that gorgeous piece of chocolate cake. Have an extra helping of steak fries. Order the thing that’s happily doused with butter, and love every single bite. And then, be done with the less-than-healthy food for that day. There’s always more.
For the grown-ups, beaches are great for sun-bathing, surfing, and swimming, but for kids it is more than that. For kids it is a different world altogether. On the beaches, they have all the freedom to use their imagination and to increase the spectrum of their thinking. Here, they can dance, sing, play, dive, surf and do a hundreds thousand activities. Following are few of the exciting activities which one can enjoy with their kids on the beach.
1. Treasure Hunt
This is one of the most loved games for kids. When you have sand all around you, hiding things will become even more interesting. This game can be modified in a number of ways. One of them could be where parents can hide things under the sand and place an identifier on top of it. They can then ask the kids to guess what is there under each identifier. For example, if they have put a Kids Jewellery Box under the sand they can put a bangle over it. The article at the top will be a hint to what is under the sand.
2. Beach Bowling
Creating the bowling pins out of the sand will be the first exciting part of this game, followed by playing a game of bowling with your gang. The re-creation of pins every time will make them even more involved in the game. They can play this game in groups as well, where they can keep rotating the roles of bowling, creating pins etc.
3. Beach Funny Faces
The best way to play with the sand is to show your creativity. You can draw numerous funny faces on the beach. While creating these faces, kids can also play a game where they will talk to each other by making only faces and not speaking. This will encourage them to understand different kinds of human emotions. Who knows? We may get back a totally new set of emoticons invented by these little geniuses.
This is one of the easiest and simplest activities you can enjoy on a beach. You only need a stick and few pebbles, which you can get easily. Place the stick in the centre in an upright position and place the pebbles around it equidistant from each other in a circle. While chilling out and playing, kids will observe and learn how the motion of the sun is associated with our time system.
Let the children understand how a certain object can absorb so much of water and become heavy. First, they can make the sponge-animals absorb water from the sea and then they can play various throwing and catching games with these sponges. When someone catches the sponge, they will be splashed with water.
6. Balloon Fish
Sitting on the sea-shore, one can easily find a couple of fishes closer to shore. Parents can show children some fishes in the sea, and can ask the kids to draw the faces of the fishes which they saw near the shore on the balloons. They can then fill balloons with water and will be happy to see the inflating of their balloon. This will make them understand how things inflate in real world.
7. Passing the Water
This game is played by more than one player. The more people, the more interesting this game will become. The main idea behind this game is to pass the water in one player’s glass, to the glass of the person who is standing right behind him. They can make themselves stand in any way. They can either stand one after the other in a straight queue or they can even form a circle.
8. Beach Ball with a Balloon
15 Cool Ways Kids Can Enjoy the Beach8Kids can place one balloon at the center of the towel, and can play a game of catch by making the balloon jump up and down on the towel. The aim will be to save the balloons from bursting.
9. Hide and Seek Castles
First, the kids will have to prepare several castles from sand and will have to name them individually. When the game will proceed, one of the kids will become the finder and rest all will try to hide behind the castle. The Finder will then guess who is behind each castle.
10. Playing with Alphabets/Numbers
The beach can be treated as a large notebook for beginners who have just started learning the alphabet, and numbers. We can help them learn the shapes of different letters and numbers by making them draw the figures on the beach. The moment the sea will erase these drawings, it will be fun for kids to re-draw them, and this will allow them to practice.
Kids can prepare a small beach-tent out of their bed-sheet, sticks, and some medium-sized pebbles. Sleeping in tents in jungles has always been fun for people in any age group, but one can not take kids into jungle. To make the kids feel like they are in the jungle, parents can decorate their tents in hut-like fashion, and also place some bushes around the tent.
One of the favorite games for all age groups, this can be played by using a simple item, like rope, and involves a lot of teamwork. The kids will learn how to make strategies to defeat their opponents. Though this game symbolizes strength, good strategies will usually prevail. Parents can include themselves in this activity to keep the game moving, as most of the time, kids will not be able to survive in this game for more than few seconds.
The young Sherlock-Holmes can get hands-on experience searching for different kinds of shells. The person who gets the most shells will be the winner.
Here, parents can help their kids identify the sound and rhythm of sea-waves, and how they relate to the sounds that musical instruments make. However, this activity will require quietness and an isolated beach, but the effort to find one will definitely pay-off.
15. Mom’s Bucket
game can be taken as a war between the moms who have brought their
children to the beach. The moms are required to hold the buckets 10-15
meters from the shore, and the kids will bring water from the shore to
fill the bucket. Whoever fills it up first will be the winner. Here, one
can utilize the timing of the waves to reduce the distance travelled to
fill up the bucket quickly.
When you want to ensure that your outdoor camping experience will not have a negative impact on your surroundings, pay attention to the facility you choose. Not every campground can institute fancy green initiatives, but you can choose one that will provide the best all-around experience. If you are looking for house washing howell then read more .
What is Sustainability?
Sustainability involves efforts to reduce negative environmental, economic, cultural, and social impact. You will be able to assess a facility’s advances toward sustainability by exploring its activities, regulations, and exchanges with the surrounding community. While it might be impressive to see a certificate or another award showing an earned certification, this isn’t the only indicator of a green initiative.
Assessing the Venue
A careful look around will give you important clues about environmental friendliness. Speak with management to learn about rules and regulations.
You might encounter rules about the maximum number of people allowed at sites, which are set to minimize impact on the environment. In general, all sites should be located at a minimum of 200 feet away from natural sources of water, and fires should be allowed in official fire rings only. It is so pleasant to work with experts. Check out this page to find out more regarding esports.
Look for evidence of waste reduction regulations. This typically includes “Leave No Trace” policies such as “Pack it in, pack it out.” These guidelines can be remarkably simple. Whatever items people bring to the site will need to be taken with them when they leave. The facility will likely be utilizing systems to properly dispose of other types of waste. This waste includes sewage and gray water.
Consumption management is also a crucial factor. Research how the venue manages power, food, firewood, and water provided to patrons. Find out how people can access power, and look to see whether alternative energy sources are available. Does the campground encourage usage of sustainable energy? Look for water-harvesting and water-saving strategies in place by the management.
Examine the construction of the facility. Check to see if outhouses or other structures are made out of recycled materials or environmentally-friendly materials such as structural fiberboard, and roofing materials made out of a plastic/rubber composite.
Giving back to the community is an important indication of sustainability. Find out if a facility contributes to the surrounding community with outreach, sponsorships, and donations. Perhaps they contribute to a local wildlife fund or forest fire prevention fund.
By assessing potential sites carefully, you can look for a campground that will not cause undue harm to the environment.

No matter where you live or travel, sun exposure is part of your life. Medical studies show that too much sun can be dangerous, even deadly. Children are more susceptible than adults to the unhealthy effects of too much sunshine. How can you protect your family? Can your kids use the same sunblock that you use?
The simple answer to the question is ‘yes’ – with some special guidelines.
Recent testing of adults in several countries has shown high concentrations of many chemicals in their bloodstreams. Several of these chemicals are known carcinogens. We absolutely MUST reduce the chemical exposure of our children.
*Non-Chemical Sun Protection
Although in the strictest sense, titanium dioxide and zinc oxide preparations are actually sunblocks, manufacturers often use the terms ‘sunblock’ and ‘sunscreen’ interchangeably. As a consumer, you must read labels to ensure that you get what you pay for.
Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide sun products provide a chemical-free way to protect your children. Nowadays, there are easy-to-apply lotions and creams. Kids don’t have to look like ghosts on the beach because their skin has been protected by a zinc oxide sunblock. Added bonuses: these non-chemical products are less likely to cause skin irritations or allergic reactions – and they start to work immediately (no waiting period necessary).
*Start at Birth and Continue
Babies have extremely sensitive skin. Sun protection must begin from birth and continue throughout the life of your child. Whenever you go outdoors, ensure that most of the baby’s skin is covered. Use stroller hoods, umbrellas, blankets, towels, or clothing for shade. Exposed areas should always be protected by a good UVA/UVB-blocking sunscreen with an SPF of 15-30. Avoid the outdoors during hours of peak sun concentration – between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
*Skin Cancer is Only One of the Problems
Skin cancer is a well-known result of too much sun exposure. However, many other conditions result from soaking up the sun. Skin aging and wrinkles are the least of the undesirable side effects. Some people develop actinic keratosis – an ugly skin condition with raised red growths that may precede skin cancer. (Search ‘Google Images’ for ‘actinic keratosis’ to see what this horrible condition looks like.)
Eyesight may be damaged, resulting in cataracts or other eye conditions. One’s immune system may be compromised, culminating in a constant barrage of colds, flu, and other viral or bacterial infections of the body.
*Water Magnifies the Sun
Not only does water dilute sunscreen or wash it off the body, it acts like a magnifying glass on the skin’s surface. Swimming may be fun – but the sun glancing off the waves and back into the eyes can cause temporary or permanent vision problems. When you are at the beach, insist that your children wear sunglasses, sun hats, and beach cover-ups. If it’s too warm for cover-ups, make sure that every inch of skin is protected by sunblock – and reapply frequently (especially when they exit the water). Sun can even make its way through clothing!
*Are Sprays Better than Lotions?
The ingredients are always the primary consideration when purchasing sun protection. After that decision has been made, choose whatever works best for your kids. Be sure to pay extra attention to sensitive areas like the nose, ears, and previously unexposed skin.
*Be Wary When Changing Brands
Try a new sun product on a small area of sensitive skin to see if it causes a rash. A small patch on an inside upper arm works well. If no rash develops, you can usually assume that it is safe to apply to the rest of your child’s body.
*Don’t Trust Cloud Cover
A cloudy sky does not mean that it’s safe to spend hours outdoors without sun protection. UVA and UVB rays bounce around in the air from water molecule to water molecule until they penetrate the cloud cover. The concentration of sunlight is reduced – but the harmful rays are still there.
*The Sun Doesn’t Care About the Equal Rights Amendment
Fair skinned, blonde girls are more likely to suffer from the ill effects of sun exposure than are darker skinned or black boys. Parents of all children should be vigilant, however. Even dark-skinned children will be adversely affected by good ol’ Sol.
*Global Warming Increases the Risk
everyone develops (and sticks to) a rigid sun protection program,
global warming (accompanied by lighter clothing) will cause more sun
damage every year.

Although it can be enjoyable to exercise outside, it can be quite harmful to your health, too. This is especially true during the summer when temperatures can rise really high. However, you don’t have to let the summer heat prevent you from enjoying a good workout outdoors. Here are some tips you can follow to make exercising outdoors enjoyable and safe even under the hot summer weather:
Wear light-colored and lightweight clothing when working out. Don’t wear dark-colored clothes when exercising outdoors since they absorb the heat. You will end up feeling so uncomfortably hot, like you’re wrapped in a warm blanket while under the warm sun. In addition, thick, heavyweight, and tight-fitting clothing will also heat your body up. When working outdoors during the summer, always
wear light and loose clothing so that more air will be able to circulate over your skin and hence, keep you cool. The most popular baby names in Russia. Interestingly, some traditional russian names are popular across all the ex-Soviet republics, in particular Alexander, Sergey, Maksim and Andrey; and Anna, Olga, Sofia and Anastasia.
Don’t exercise outdoors during the hottest part of the day. Wake up early to catch the cool of the morning to work out or exercise at sunset or at night. You won’t be able to work out properly if you do it in the heat of mid-day (usually between 10 am and 4 pm). However, if you have no choice but to work out during these times, consider signing up for an aqua aerobics class. You should also always carry a small, portable fan or spray bottle for skin surface cooling and take a dip in the pool after exercising during the hottest times of the day.
Wear sunblock before working out. Apply UVA/UVB sunblock, preferably with titanium or zinc dioxide before going out. If you will be exercising outdoors for more than 2 hours, don’t forget to reapply sunblock at two-hour intervals.
Stay hydrated. Exercising
in hot weather can rapidly increase a person’s body temperature. Your
body’s natural cooling system can fail if you are exposed to soaring
temperatures for too long. This can result in heat exhaustion and even
heat stroke. To make sure your body keeps cool, drink plenty of water.
While you’re exercising outdoors, drink 8 to 10 ounces of water every 20
minutes. You can also fill up on fruits and vegetables rich in water
content such as pineapple and watermelon before working out. Drink
plenty of water as well after exercising.
The sun is what we always wait for each day. Its warmth always makes our day fell brighter and happier. Thus, some people just love doing outdoor activity and let the heat of the sun touches their skin. However, as we know, prolonged exposure to the sun leads to skin damage and further, skin cancer. In fact, melanoma is the most common disease found in people who have higher exposure to the sun. Off course, we can prevent this by using perfect and suitable chemical sunscreen and sun block. But how do we choose the right ones when there are so many choices in the market? Well, let’s see the factors one by one.
First thing we need to do is defining our skin color. Fairer skin tends to get tan and burnt easily. Hence it is suggested to always choose the brands with higher SPF (sun protection factor).
Second, always classify whether the affected skin is oily, normal or dry. It will be useful when choosing the right brand, texture and spectrum coverage.
Third, as there are many products marketed as sunscreen as well, there is slight confusion between those both. Sunscreen is slightly sheer and do still allow some radiation reached the skin though it protects against UVA, UVB or both. Because of its texture, it must be re-applied every few hours as some sunscreen products tend to be unstable under direct sunlight. Sun block has all the capability of sunscreen minus its instability but it is more solid.
Fourth thing we must remember is the most important point. We must define our activities are. It is suggested to divide first whether it is indoor or outdoor activity, or whether it will be much related to water sports or a picnic in the park full of trees shade. Then, how do we combine all factors into something that is applicable? Below are the examples.
- If most of your activity has been done indoor, you can choose sunscreen instead of sun block. It will come handy when you need to apply makeup as well.
- If most of it outdoor, choose sun block instead.
- If the outdoor activity is a kind of picnic in the park, then there is no need to choose waterproof products.
- But, if you play on the beach or swim in the open-rooftop pool, a waterproof one is a must.
- There is this opinion that the higher the SPF is, the more prone to blackheads the sun block is. But, some products are way forward-thinking by creating a noncomedogenic cream.
Rule of thumb is always choosing safe products designed
specifically for each body part. Oriflame has this brand SOL Family
Medium Sun block Cream which is suitable for the family. It is available
for both the face and the body as well. You might check on how to
purchase the products in below sites.
Lanikai beach is on Oahu’s southeastern coast, and has been ranked as one of the world’s most beautiful beaches, along with neighboring Kailua Beach. The aquamarine waters, smooth white sands and gently swaying palm trees epitomize South Pacific Paradise. There are even times you can be there by yourself. Of course, when the wind is up, the hordes of energetic windsurfers quickly dissolve any fantasies of being marooned on a tropical island.
Still, most of the time, the beach is fairly quiet, and even when it’s not, one must gape a bit at the natural beauty of it. Note: As with all Hawaii beaches, conditions are changeable. Check with the lifeguards or locals before entering the water, and always use caution. Lanikai, which translates to “Heavenly Waters,” is a beachside community, with exclusive Lanikai villa and condo rentals sitting on a reef-protected turquoise-blue bay. Right next door to Kailua Town, the two communities together offer the best Oahu has to offer, without the hassle of crowds. You’ll find a variety of activities in the area, including swimming, sunbathing on soft white sand beaches, snorkeling and diving, sailing, hiking, and golf. Kailua Beach is known as one of the best beaches for windsurfing on the islands.
There is also a wide range of lodging, unique dining experiences, shopping at boutiques and markets. All of this and you are just twenty minutes away from the Honolulu Airport and the beaches of Waikiki! For the utmost in Hawaiian relaxation, Lanikai offers visitors a place where the past peacefully resides with the comforts of the present.
want to kayak out to the offshore Mokulua Islands. Lanikai Beach has
the best view of these twin islands, which are recognized worldwide. The
Mokulua Islands are about one half mile off the shore of Lanikai. These
islands house many birds such as the I`wa, as well as provide a
destination for fun recreational activities such as surfing, kayaking,
snorkeling and paddling. Only Moku Nui, seen on the left as you face
them from Lanikai Beach, is open for landing. Visitors are restricted to
the beach so as not to step on the many seabird nests. This gorgeous
island has a superb beach, an impressive double mountain, and stunning
offshore views. Its somewhat smaller twin, Moku Iki, is almost its
spitting image, but officially landing on it is not permitted (bird
sanctuary). You can rent a kayak from a rental “van” across from the
park. The water is clear so you can see the sand and corals underneath
you. We saw a turtle surfacing from a distance. There’s a couple of
islands near Lanikai that you can kayak to. We only kayaked to one
island to rest and ate some snacks. It was a bit tricky to get back in
the water but if you are not afraid to get wet and jump back into the
kayak, it’s do-able.My husband and I waited until the last day of
being at our rental property on Oahu to visit Lanikai – big mistake!
Had we gone there on the first day, we would have spent every day there!
This is the most beautiful beach I have ever seen. For sure, the best
on Oahu. The sand is soft and fine, the water is warm, calm and clear,
it is very quiet and secluded.
